About ISRSA
The Indiana Small and Rural Schools Association (ISRSA) advocates for the unique needs and interests of small and rural school districts across Indiana, representing communities that serve a significant portion of the state’s students.
Position Overview
ISRSA seeks a motivated and detail-oriented legislative intern to support our advocacy efforts during the 2026 Indiana Legislative Session. This position offers hands-on experience in education policy, legislative processes, and advocacy work at the state level.
Responsibilities
Monitor and track education-related legislation throughout the session. Attend committee hearings and provide summaries of testimony and outcomes. Conduct research on proposed bills and their potential impact on small and rural schools. Assist in preparing policy briefs, position statements, and legislative updates. Support communication efforts with member districts regarding legislative developments
Collaborate with ISRSA leadership on advocacy strategy and stakeholder engagement. Perform other duties as assigned to support the organization’s legislative priorities
Qualifications Required:
Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to analyze complex policy documents and legislation. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace. Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
Preferred:
Major or concentration in Law, Pre-Law, Political Science, Education Policy, Public Policy, or related field. Interest in rural education issues and small school communities. Previous experience with legislative processes or policy research. Familiarity with Indiana’s education system

Compensation
