The time for joining and renewal of your membership in the Indiana Small and Rural Schools Association is upon us for the 2019-2020 school year! With the economic outlook being as it is and the ever-present challenges being presented us by legislation positions, it is more important than ever that the small and rural schools of Indiana have a united voice as the issues are addressed. The ISRSA will strive to further the cause of ISRSA member schools by being instrumental in assisting schools in addressing specific needs and making our needs known at the appropriate level.
The ISRSA will work hand-in-hand with other professional associations, agencies and service centers to further assist in situations that may be peculiar and specific to small and rural schools. Curriculum-sharing, program development, and professional development are among the areas to be analyzed and reviewed to determine whether a school or groups of schools in an area of the state have common needs. The ISRSA has every intention of working cooperatively with existing associations as we meet the challenges of the years ahead.
The ISRSA can only be as strong as its membership. While this is a time many of you are looking at means of reducing costs and expenses, it is NOT the time to view membership in the ISRSA, or any other education-related association, as a luxury. Our goal is to broaden our membership base in order to represent more small and rural schools in the State of Indiana. Our current membership includes 84 school districts ranging in size from 312 to over 4,318students; the membership represents over 110,000 students. Practically speaking, every school in Indiana is eligible to joint ISRSA. Please ask your neighboring superintendent is his/her school district is a member. If they are not, please encourage them to join so we can have an even stronger representative voice in these turbulent times.
